- Biography:
- Barbara Jane Kay, a former teacher living in Englewood, New Jersey, was working as a housewife when she was arrested in Jackson, Mississippi for her participation in a Freedom Ride from Montgomery, Alabama to Jackson, Mississippi on July 2, 1961. Kay, the wife of musician Ulysses Kay, was active in the movement to desegregate schools and in 1966 participated in the Meredith March. She died at the age of seventy-one in 1997.
