- Biography:
- Born on September 4, 1939, Harold Ickes attended Stanford University and at the age of twenty-four, volunteered to participate in the COFO sponsored Mississippi Freedom Project during the summer of 1964. Ickes' father, Harold LeClaire Ickes was one-time president of the Chicago chapter of the NAACP and later served as Secretary of the Interior under the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration from 1933 until 1946.
