- Richard P. Griswold was a thirty-four year old social worker in Brooklyn, New York when he was arrested in Jackson, Mississippi for his participation in a Freedom Ride from Nashville, Tennessee to Jackson, Mississippi on June 10, 1961. Griswold also participated in the Monroe, North Carolina Freedom Ride.
