- Biography:
- Civil rights activist, chairman of the Milwaukee, Wisconsin chapter of Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), and member of numerous civil rights organizations including the Milwaukee United School Integration Committee (MUSIC) and the Milwaukee NAACP. Givens later became a labor negotiator for American Motors Corporation where he helped place African Americans in management positions and skilled trades; he also became the first African American advisor to a Milwaukee mayor when he was appointed by Henry W. Maier in 1968.
