- James C. Gilliam was a former United States postal carrier in Mississippi who was served as the Grand Master of freemason lodges in both Clarksdale and Jackson, Mississippi and was an active member and leader in state and local civil rights organizations such as the Regional Council on Negro Leadership, the Coahoma branch of the NAACP, SCLC and the National Student Association.
