- In 1960, James Gabrielle and his wife, Daisy, ignored the White Citizens' Council boycott of the integrated William Frantz school and sent their daughter Yolanda to first grade there. After a month, community pressure on the family caused them to move to Rhode Island, James' hometown. The family was so concerned about their safety after continuous harassment that they traveled in two groups.
