- "John Forbis was born on September 22, 1939, in Greensboro, North Carolina, and is an 11th generation native of the city. He attended Curry High School, graduating in 1957. Following college, Forbis worked as an undertaker and became very active in the Greensboro Jaycees. He was elected to Greensboro's city council in 1973, when integration and busing were the foremost issues. Forbis was mayor pro tem when the Klan-CWP shootout occurred on Nov. 3, 1979, and participated in stabilizing efforts from a command center in City Hall.
