- "Judge Michael L. Carr Jr. was born December 5, 1920, the eldest of five children who were all educated in the public schools of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Carr enlisted in the Army Reserve July 5, 1942, and entered active military service April 5, 1943. He served 15 months in Europe during World War II in the Rhineland and Central European campaigns. After his discharge in 1946, Carr earned a bachelor of arts degree and then a law degree from the University of North Carolina. In his first job out of law school, he received an appointment to serve as law clerk to Edwin R. Holmes, U.S. circuit judge for the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and moved to Mississippi. Carr entered private law practice in Brookhaven, Mississippi, in 1951 and has lived there ever since. He was elected district attorney of the Fourteenth Judicial District in 1955 and served seven years. In 1962, he was elected chancellor of the Fifteenth Chancery Court District of Mississippi. He retired in 1990 and is now a chancellor, senior status. Carr's community service includes his church, the Faith Presbyterian Church in Brookhaven, the Kiwanis Club, and the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce. He is past chairman of the Board of Trustees of Belhaven College. Recognitions include the distinguished service award from the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1957 and the 1962 Soap Box Award from the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce. He married the former Mary Helen Field of Centreville and has two daughters, Mrs. Helen Waltman and Mrs. Julie Chadwick, and four grandchildren: Michael Waltman, Mary Waltman, William Chadwick Jr., and Michael Carr Chadwick."--Oral history with Michael L.
