- Biography:
- Colia Liddell Clark was born in 1940 and was a student at Tougaloo College in Jackson, Mississippi when she became involved in the civil rights movement through her work with the NAACP. Clark was active in local voter registration efforts and eventually left NAACP to work with SCEF and SNCC. In 1962 Colia married Bernard LaFayette, Jr. and the following year the couple moved to Selma, Alabama where she worked as a field secretary for SNCC and later was appointed executive secretary of the organization. Colia taught at University of Albany during the 1990s and continues her advocacy for both civil and human rights in the United States and abroad.
