- Television journalist, born May 31, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois. Briggs began his career as a disc jockey for WSON-AM in Henderson, Kentucky. From 1960 to 1965, he served as a reporter and anchor for WSB-TV in Atlanta. After a brief stint as a reporter for WKYC-TV in Cleveland, Briggs joined NBC News in 1966.
