- Biography:
- Supreme Court justice (1957 to 1990) was born in Newark, New Jersey, April 25, 1906 and died July 24 1997. According to the American National Biography, "Brennan also helped to shape the contours of the Fourteenth Amendment guarantee of "equal protection of the laws." He wrote several major school desegregation decisions that were central to the Court's effort to enforce the mandate of Brown v. Board of Education (1954). He authored a number of decisions upholding the use of race and gender in national and local affirmative action plans, and his decisions continued to be debated even after he left the bench."
