- Biography:
- Born in Virginia on May 9, 1906, Sarah-Patton Boyle became a noted American author and leading civil rights activist. In 1961, Boyle endorsed a petition requesting executive clemency from President Kennedy for imprisoned civil rights activist, Carl Braden. The following year, in 1962, Boyle published "The Desegregated Heart." Boyle went on to publish numerous other articles and books reflecting her observations of race relations in Virginia and throughout the South. She died at the age of 87 on February 20, 1994.
