- Born in Monroe, Georgia, Larry Bell was working as a plasterer in Los Angeles, California when he was arrested for his participation in the Freedom Rides. Bell was arrested in the Illinois Central terminal in Jackson, Mississippi on 9 July 1961 after he and eight others participated in a Freedom Ride from New Orleans, Louisiana to Jackson, Mississippi.
