- Born in 1936, Duran Bell attended University of California, Berkeley. While in college, Bell attended numerous demonstrations and rallies in the San Francisco area and became involved in the free speech and civil rights movements. He is a professor emeritus of economics and anthropology at University of California, Irvine.
