- Biography:
- African American journalist, educator, and political activist. Bass was managing editor and publisher of the African American newspaper The California Eagle from 1912 to 1951. A founder of the California's Independent Progressive Party, she ran for numerous political offices, including a 1952 run for vice president of the United States on the Progressive Party ticket, the Los Angeles City Council, and Congress.
