- "Judith Behar was born and raised in New York, New York. She earned her bachelor's degree at Brooklyn College and her master's in English at the University of Connecticut. She received her J.D. degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law. Behar and her then-husband moved to Greensboro in 1968, where she began practicing law in 1975 and joined the state branch of the American Civil Liberties Union. Shortly after the November 1979 Ku Klux Klan/Communist Workers Party shootings, Behar was asked to serve on the Citizens Review Committee formed to investigate the incident.
