A twenty-three old Morehouse College student, Andrews rode a Trailways bus from Montgomery, Alabama to Jackson, Mississippi on May 24, 1961 as part of a Freedom Ride. He was arrested on 24 May 1961 in Jackson, Mississippi for his participation in the Freedom Rides.
