The Florida State University Libraries support and enhance the learning, teaching, research, and service activities of the Florida State University with collections of more than 3 million volumes, 549,000 e-books, 78,000 periodicals and over 600 databases. The Libraries provide organized access to quality information in all formats, promoting information literacy, preserving information, and engaging in collaborative partnerships to disseminate ideas to advance intellectual discovery. The Special Collections and Archives Division of the Florida State University Libraries supports and advances research, teaching, and engagement by acquiring, preserving, and providing access to collections of original manuscripts, rare books, and university archives for use by students, faculty, and researchers worldwide. As part of its mission, the Special Collections and Archives division preserves the cultural and historical record, serves as the institutional memory of FSU, and promotes multidisciplinary research.


Strengths:
The Special Collections and Archives division includes rare books, university archives, manuscripts and personal papers, political papers, and business records. Collections range from ostraka, cuneiform tablets, papyri, illuminated manuscripts, and incunabula to modern artist books and literary manuscripts. The primary areas of collection strengths include Napoleon and the French Revolution, poetry, papers of Florida political figures, Southern business history, and the history of Florida. Major collections include the Claude Pepper Library, the Paul A.M. Dirac Papers, and the Lois Lenski Papers.
