- Description:
- Black and white photograph of a crowds in the streets during the Chattanooga sit-ins of February 1960. This is the intersection of 9th Street (now MLK Blvd.), Georgia Avenue and Cherry Street and the Hamilton National Bank is visible in center. Buildings visible were the Hamilton National Bank and Key Hotel. On the fourth day of protests, police blocked off the 9th and Lindsay Street junction (the African American side of downtown) after downtown was cleared. Some students attempted to take side streets back, but were sprayed with hoses. The photo is taken in the same spot as 2007.083.001.qq. The name "Sherril" is written on the back, likely referring to photographer Bob Sherrill.
