Boyd, president of the Clarendon County branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) of Manning, South Carolina regarding the need for a unified front "because the NAACP is too weak to be taking heresy and fighting its own best characters.... We can wreck the cause for which we are working by the heresy of a lying tongue."
