- Oral history in which Furman Melton describes his experiences as a member of a special police unit assigned to the demonstrations in 1963, including their duties, arrest procedures, training, and response. He also provides his opinion on demonstrator behavior and the role of Jesse Jackson, and details the sit-downs that led to mass arrests and incarceration at the polio hospital. Melton also discusses pickets at the cafeterias and movie theaters in 1963, and discusses in detail his experience responding to the May 1969 riot at Dudley High School and the North Carolina A&T campus.
