Photographers and other men walk on the sidewalk next to the students. Federal courts ordered schools in Clinton, Tennessee, to integrate \"with all deliberate speed\" in 1956. In September, segregationists Asa Carter and John Kaspar spoke against the school's integration by twelve African American students. After the speeches, violence in the city grew to the point that National Guard troups were brought into the city for two months to keep order.
