Volunteers attended a two-week training and education course before going to Mississippi for the summer.  This document describes legislation passed in Mississippi that was in direct violation of the Fifteenth Amendment, particularly discrimination against African Americans in voter registration practices throughout the state.  It also discusses some instances of race-related violence in Mississippi.
