After King's assassination in 1968, Abernathy succeeded him as SCLC President and served in that capacity until 1977. In 1968, Abernathy helped organize the Poor People's Campaign (PPC) March on Washington, D.C. Hosea Lorenzo Williams (1926-2000) was a United States civil rights leader and ordained reverend. He was a leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and organized and led marches in the 1960s through the 1980s. After King's assassination in 1968, Abernathy succeeded him as SCLC President and served in that capacity until 1977. In 1968, Abernathy helped organize the Poor People's Campaign (PPC) March on Washington, D.C. Hosea Lorenzo Williams (1926-2000) was a United States civil rights leader and ordained reverend. He was a leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and organized and led marches in the 1960s through the 1980s.
