The Petition requests a hearing with your school board to discuss plans for desegregation in accordance with the Supreme Court's decision. The patrons of your community have requested the aid of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in working with the board and they have requested that Mr. J. C. Crenchaw, 702 West 9th Street, Little Rock, be notified of the date of the meeting on this Petition and that he be invited to be present. Blossom We, the undersigned, are the parents of children of age entitled to attend and attending the public elementary and secondary high schools under your jurisdiction. Pursuant to state law racially segregated public schools are nor being maintained by you for children of Negro parentage. As you undoubtedly know, the United States Supreme Court on May 17, 1954, ruled that the maintenance of racially segregated public schools is a violation of the Constitution of the United States and that \"....in the field of public education the doctrine of 'separate but equal' has no place. Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal.\" We, therfore, call upon you to take immediate steps to reorganize the public schools under your jurisdiction in accordance with the constitutional principles enunciated by the Supreme Court on May 17. As we understand those principles, children of public school age attending and entitled to attend public schools cannot be denied admission to any school or be required to attend any school solely because of race and color. We request a hearing before the Board for the purpose of discussing this petition.
