Conduct a classroom discussion about what the leaders should do and did do after Bloody Sunday. Share the primary source document \"Plaintiffs' Proposed Plan for March from Selma to Montgomery, AL.\" There is a handwritten note at the end that gives Governor Wallace's response to the plan. Remove or cover that part of the document so students cannot read the response until later. Tell students that they will read the organizers' plan for the march. They should use the graphic organizer, \"A Plan to March\" to list what parts of the plan they feel are acceptable adn what parts they might change. At the end of the organizer, the students will be asked if they would approve the plan. When the students have completed the organizer, hold a class discussion about what parts of the plan were good and what parts they would change. Have students discuss if they would approve the plan. Once the discussion has ended, have students look at Governor Wallace's response (the statement says he objects to the plan). Have students discuss why they think he may not have approved. After the discussion, make sure students know that the proposed march does take place. At this point use the activity \"Packing for the March to Montgomery\" to help students think about how a person during this time would experience the march. What would they need to take with them?
