The first part is a discussion between Dr. Joseph C. Hough Jr. and Reverend J. Oscar McCloud. Dr. Hough begins by asserting that the primary task for the white church in America is to produce the political translation of the gospel message. Hough also discusses an attitudinal survey that was conducted after a racial tragedy occurred, and creative programs white churches are using to help with race problems in the America. Reverend McCloud follows by reporting Atlanta University Center statistics. He also presents a slideshow that depicts the lack of response from the white churches in Atlanta. The second part of the audio recording is an unknown speaker discussing the difference between African people and Black people in the United States of America. This is followed by a question and answer period."],"dc_format":["audio/mpeg"],"dcterms_identifier":null,"dcterms_language":["eng"],"dcterms_publisher":null,"dc_relation":null,"dc_right":["http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC-EDU/1.0/"],"dcterms_is_part_of":["Interdenominational Theological Center Audio Visual Collection||http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12322/fa:066"],"dcterms_subject":["African Americans--Religion","Lectures and lecturing"],"dcterms_title":["Church and Violence, Group Discussion of Morning Session, March 13, 1969"],"dcterms_type":["Sound"],"dcterms_provenance":["Atlanta University Center Robert W. The first is by Dr. Oswald P. Bronson. Dr. Bronson was the second president of ITC (1968-1975) and later the president of Bethune-Cookman College (1975-2004). Dr. Bronsons sermon discusses the social handicaps in ministry which hinders black ministerial recruitment. He also speaks on how ITC is one of the few schools striving to change that by illustrating the improvements and successes of the seminary. The second speaker is the Honorable Richard G. Hatcher. Hatcher was the first African-American mayor of Gary, Indiana. Hatcher chooses the Biblical book of Amos to illustrate how God is upset with the church for remaining silent instead of being a force for good in society. The first speaker is Dr. J. Edward Carothers, a Methodist minister. He discusses different conflicts, originating in the church, in which the church often fails to acknowledge their part. He urges ministers to work together to awaken America to the covert violence that surrounds them. The second speaker is Bishop F.D. Jordan, the 72nd Bishop of the AME church. Bishop Jordan discusses the history of the AME church as well as the importance of Christian love towards all human beings. The last speaker is Monsignor J.J. Egan, a Roman Catholic priest and avid social activist. Egan speaks on the need for strong revolutions across the world. He reminds the audience that Christianity was birthed in violence with the hanging of Christ on the cross.
