At 11pm every evening throughout the convention, Edward and the rest of his unit cleared people from Lincoln Park by walking in a single line west from the zoo toward North Clark Street. Mr. Alter recalls attempting to stop the police from being violent with young people outside of the Conrad Hilton Hotel. He also mentions the anti-Vietnam War protest on April 27, 1968 when Chicago police acted violently toward participants. He saw that as a precursor to what occurred in August. Powell attended one year of business school and then enlisted in the United States Air Force.
