Dr. Massey earned his Ph.D. in physics in 1966 from Washington University, St. Louis. As a professor at Brown University, Massey was hired as director of the Argonne National Laboratory and took over Argonne a month prior to the Three Mile Island disaster in 1979. While working at Argonne, Dr. Massey was theoretical physicist. Upon returning to the United States in 1970, Wood joined the Communist Party. In Chicago, Lumpkin took part in the closing of Wisconsin Steel and the civil rights and the women's rights movements. She had also written an autobiography called \"Joy in the Struggle: My Life and Love,\" and a book about her husband titled \"Always Bring a Crowd!' After a rural upbringing, he entered the United States Army, where he served as a jeep driver in Germany. He re-enlisted, seeking a transfer to the United States, where he was stationed at the Nike-Hercules missile site in Munster, Indiana. Huber worked in the Chicago-Gary Defense Area, and experienced the military's preparations for the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. In 1969, Huber volunteered to go to Vietnam, where he served until late 1970.
