Thompson, mentioning how Frederick Douglass claimed his own freedom, wrote that his race wants to fight and must fight for theirs. He envisioned an organization what would allow people of color to join forces to combat discrimination while acknowledging the good work the NAACP was doing in meeting that goal. He concluded with practical ways to join the struggle, including the paying of poll taxes in order to vote.
