- The 1974 UNCG yearbook, Pine Needles, shows continued growth of the African American student population and references some issues involving race relations and the legal definition of civil rights. For instance the yearbook staff highlighted and commented on the fact that this was the first year they were asked by the administration to publish an Affirmative Action statement (pg. 39). Candid photographs show black entertainment on campus with performances by the Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose, activities of the Neo-Black Society, and involvement of African American students in predominately white student organizations. Sample pages of class portraits show a representative black to white student ratio.
