- Description:
- This memo from J. Clay Madison was sent to members of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church's newly formed Commission on Religion and Race. UNCG Chancellor James S. Ferguson served on this commission during the summer of 1970. Ferguson initially agreed to serve on a white task force which would prepare a position paper to be presented at a conference which was held at North Carolina A&T State University in July, 1970. This memo outlines some of the responsibilities of the commission which apparently was set up by the church around the same time. Also included is an agenda for an organizational meeting of the commission held in July of 1970, as well as a bibliography of reading materials recommended to the commission.
