- Description:
- In this February 7, 1970 Charlotte Observer article, Paul Clancy focuses on the role of the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce in improving race relations in the city. Chamber Vice President William Little says "the time has come to recognize that racial prejudice and racial discrimination are the community's most expensive, most destructive counter force to anything that the Chamber of Commerce stands for and should stand for." Clancy writes that the chamber has created discussion cells to address race relations in the city and that while many have left the organization, many more have joined in support. Also mentioned in the article are Hal Sieber, Allen Wannamaker, the 1960 Woolworth lunch counter sit-ins, and the 1969 Dudley High School/A&T State University protest. This article was clipped and saved in a scrapbook by Clarence "Curly" Harris, manager of the Greensboro Woolworth store at the time of the 1960 sit-ins.
