- This article by William D. Snider, former editor of the Greensboro News & Record, appeared January 28, 1990, in observance of the thirtieth anniversary of the 1960 Greensboro sit-ins. Snider cites William H. Chafe's book Civilities and Civil Rights and presents an analysis of the sit-ins in historical perspective in terms of that book, concluding that "civility" has a place in protests, but should not be used as an excuse by "those who have no intention of confronting change." This article was saved in a scrapbook by Clarence "Curly" Harris, manager of the Greensboro Woolworth store at the time of the 1960 sit-ins.
