- Letter from John Stanly in Raleigh, N.C. to Abram M. Allen in Fayetteville, N.C. An 1819 letter from Raleigh comments on the legality of court proceedings initiated on behalf of an enslaved and advises as to the most prudent means of handling the case. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
