- This audio recording features an 11am worship service on February 3, 1991 at Cascade United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. This recording features singing, musical performances, scripture readings, prayer, and a sermon. Beginning at 00:21:12, Joseph E. Lowery delivers a Black History Month sermon about "Sharing the Bearing of the Cross and the Wearing of the Crown", in which he speaks about Black history, what it means to be Black, and the Black experience in the Bible and in society. Lowery speaks about Black people getting credit for helping Jesus carry the cross. Lowery emphasizes how Black people have a history of "translating evil into good" and modeling for America ways that Black people have always had "Dark Joy" by having hope through challenges and converting negative circumstances into positive opportunities.
