- Description:
- This audio recording features a church service at Cascade United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. The recording opens with Joseph E. Lowery leading the singing of "The Church's One Foundation". Service proceedings include songs, prayer service, a scripture reading, and a sermon delivered by Lowery (at 00:38:27). Lowery begins his sermon by discussing how his wife and he had traveled recently and during these travels, heard some others playing Joe Simon's "Drowning In The Sea Of Love". This listening experience led Lowery to want to talk about "drowning in a sea of excuses". Lowery goes on to speak about how Black people have cooperated with a system that's designed to destroy them and the need to develop lifestyles that free the Black community from the system and to stop hiding behind excuses. Audio note: Low volume throughout recording playback.
