- Biography:
- African American educator, born a slave in Lexington, Kentucky in 1859. President of Eckstein Norton College in Cane Spring Kentucky from 1890 to 1912 and founder of the Kentucky Home Society for Colored Children in 1908. He served as the secretary of the Lincoln Institute High School's board of trustees in 1918 and as the president of Simmons University from 1918 to 1931
