He trained undergraduates and graduate students enrolled in his folklore curriculum to conduct oral history interviews. Students interviewed men, women, and children of various demographics in Georgia and across the southeast on crafts, storytelling, music, and traditions. Specific topics that were frequently discussed include jokes and riddles, traditional medicine, family stories, the Civil War and slavery, rural life, religion, education, superstitions and ghosts, and folklore and tall tales. Many recordings include folk songs, gospel music, ballads, and hymns. The interviews provide unique insight into Southern Appalachian culture during the late nineteenth and twentieth century, particularly regarding rural life and race relations.","","The original audio is stored primarily on reel-to-reel and audio cassettes. Along with oral histories, many students wrote full or partial transcripts, took photographs, and collected additional biographical information about participants. Professor Burrison donated the project to Atlanta History Center in 1993 and contributed additional material in subsequent drop offs."],"dc_format":["audio/mpeg"],"dcterms_identifier":null,"dcterms_language":["eng"],"dcterms_publisher":["Atlanta, Ga. : Kenan Research Center, Atlanta History Center"],"dc_relation":null,"dc_right":["http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"dcterms_is_part_of":null,"dcterms_subject":["Oral tradition--Georgia","Oral history--Georgia","Storytelling--Georgia","Appalachian Region, Southern","Ghost stories, American","Georgia--Rural conditions","Folk songs, American","Superstition--Georgia","American wit and humor","Folk music--Georgia","Tales","Folklore--Georgia","Farm life--Georgia","Singing--Georgia","Traditional medicine--Georgia","Country life--Georgia","Folklore--Performance--Georgia","Georgia--Race relations","Joking","Music--Georgia","Singing","African Americans--Georgia","Children","Racism--Georgia","Agriculture--Georgia","Humorous stories, American"],"dcterms_title":["John Burrison Georgia Folklore Archives collection"],"dcterms_type":["Sound"],"dcterms_provenance":["Atlanta History Center"],"edm_is_shown_by":null,"edm_is_shown_at":["https://album.atlantahistorycenter.com/digital/collection/p17222coll18/"],"dcterms_temporal":null,"dcterms_rights_holder":null,"dcterms_bibliographic_citation":null,"dlg_local_right":null,"dcterms_medium":["audiocassettes","open reel audiotapes"],"dcterms_extent":null,"dlg_subject_personal":["Phagan, Mary, -1913","Frank, Leo, 1884-1915","Sherman, William T.
