display the humanity of a people. Harris' 40-year career with the Pittsburgh Courier, one of the largest and most influential Black newspapers in the country, began as the nation emerged from the Depression and ended with the Civil Rights Movement. Numbering upwards of 80,000 images, this archive represents the largest single collection of photographic images of any Black community in the United States-or the world for that matter.","In 2001, Carnegie Museum of Art acquired the collection from the Harris family. The museum is in the process of cataloguing and digitizing the images and plans to present a major retrospective on Harris' work in 2009. Using the museum's online collection search page, you can now view over 18,000 images in the collection, and more are being added to the database each week. Since many of the photographs and negatives were not labeled, the museum asks the assistance of the public in helping to identify the people, places, and events in the images and provides an e-mail link included in every Teenie Harris negative record in our online database.","The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata."],"dc_format":null,"dcterms_identifier":null,"dcterms_language":null,"dcterms_publisher":null,"dc_relation":null,"dc_right":["http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"dcterms_is_part_of":null,"dcterms_subject":["African American photographers--Pennsylvania","Pittsburgh Courier Publishing Co.","African Americans--Pennsylvania--Social life and customs--History--20th century"],"dcterms_title":["Documenting Our Past: The Teenie Harris Archive Project"],"dcterms_type":["Collection"],"dcterms_provenance":["Carnegie Museum of Art"],"edm_is_shown_by":null,"edm_is_shown_at":["https://cmoa.org/art/teenie-harris-archive/"],"dcterms_temporal":null,"dcterms_rights_holder":null,"dcterms_bibliographic_citation":null,"dlg_local_right":null,"dcterms_medium":["black-and-white photographs","web sites"],"dcterms_extent":null,"dlg_subject_personal":["Harris, Teenie, 1908-1998"],"dcterms_subject_fast":null,"fulltext":null},{"id":"cma_thap_23410","title":"Men protesting on sidewalk with signs reading \"Small business prospers when we prosper,\" and \"Don't let what happened in Philadelphia happen in Pittsburgh\"","collection_id":"cma_thap","collection_title":"Documenting Our Past: The Teenie Harris Archive Project","dcterms_contributor":null,"dcterms_spatial":["United States, Pennsylvania, Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, 40.44062, -79.99589"],"dcterms_creator":["Harris, Teenie, 1908-1998"],"dc_date":["1930/1950"],"dcterms_description":["Men protesting on sidewalk with signs reading \"Small business prospers when we prosper,\" and \"Don't let what happened in Philadelphia happen in Pittsburgh.\"","The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata."],"dc_format":null,"dcterms_identifier":["black and white: Ansco safety film","Accession number: 2001.35.13769","Identifier: Carnegie Museum of Art 2001.35.13769","Multimedia identifier: 23410.jpg"],"dcterms_language":null,"dcterms_publisher":null,"dc_relation":null,"dc_right":["http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"dcterms_is_part_of":null,"dcterms_subject":["Signs and signboards--Pennsylvania--Pittsburgh","Picketing--Pennsylvania--Pittsburgh","Men--Pennsylvania--Pittsburgh","African Americans--Civil rights--Pennsylvania--Pittsburgh","Civil rights workers--Pennsylvania--Pittsburgh","African American civil rights workers--Pennsylvania--Pittsburgh","Civil rights movements--Pennsylvania--Pittsburgh"],"dcterms_title":["Men protesting on sidewalk with signs reading \"Small business prospers when we prosper,\" and \"Don't let what happened in Philadelphia happen in Pittsburgh\""],"dcterms_type":["StillImage"],"dcterms_provenance":["Carnegie Museum of Art"],"edm_is_shown_by":null,"edm_is_shown_at":["http://www.cmoa.org/CollectionDetail.aspx?item=23410"],"dcterms_temporal":null,"dcterms_rights_holder":["Carnegie Museum of Art"],"dcterms_bibliographic_citation":null,"dlg_local_right":null,"dcterms_medium":["black-and-white photographs"],"dcterms_extent":null,"dlg_subject_personal":null,"dcterms_subject_fast":null,"fulltext":null},{"id":"cma_thap_19672","title":"Woman protesting in snow wearing sandwich board reading, \"Restaurant Workers in Kaufmann's On Strike\"","collection_id":"cma_thap","collection_title":"Documenting Our Past: The Teenie Harris Archive Project","dcterms_contributor":null,"dcterms_spatial":["United States, Pennsylvania, Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, 40.44062, -79.99589"],"dcterms_creator":["Harris, Teenie, 1908-1998"],"dc_date":["1930/1950"],"dcterms_description":["The sandwich board sign the woman is wearing reads, \"Restaurant workers In Kaufmann's On Strike, 1.
