Richardson (1901-1990) was the founder and first President of the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Richardson received a bachelors degree in history from Western Reserve University (1925), and a Bachelor of Sacred Theology degree from the Harvard University Divinity School (1932), and a doctorate from Drew University Theological Seminary (1945). In this sermon, Dr. Richardson discusses preparation for the call of ministry. He references the Biblical book of Second Timothy as his text. He addresses the question, \"Is ministry a science or an art?\" as a basis for the remainder of the sermon. He says the key to a successful church is identifying what the people need and allowing your ministry to be the place that holds the answer to that need. King (1886-1976) attended Wiley College, Boston University of Theology, and Harvard University. Bishop King served as Professor of Old Testament Literature at Gammon Theological Seminary and later went on to become president of Gammon in 1932. This sermon was given at the 1962 ITC commencement ceremony. Bishop King illustrates the theme of the inevitability of change and uses passages from the Biblical book of Matthew as his text. He emphasizes that materialism and race relations are causing turmoil in the Christian church. He ends the sermon by telling ministers to always see the Christian church as the instrument of Christ in the world. The audio recording ends with a spiritual, the conferring and presentation of degrees, and closing remarks from Dr. H.V. Richardson. He became a Methodist minister and was later the Bishop of the Central Conference, based in Baltimore, Maryland, from 1952-1964. In this sermon, delivered April 12, 1962, Bishop Love exhorts the ITC students in attendance to choose difficult, transformative challenges rather than an easy life of conformity. He illustrates his theme using a passage from the Biblical book of Joshua (chapter 14). He particularly focuses on the Biblical figure of Caleb as an exemplar of the theme. He also often served as an anti-war activist and a proponent of civil rights and abortion rights which led to much controversy during his time as a minister. In this sermon, delivered March 22, 1962, Rev. Kirkpatrick reminds the ITC Theta Phi inductees that their role in ministry is to make love on Gods behalf and act as an earthly light that is reflective of the heavenly light of Christ. He refers to the Biblical book of Revelation as well as other modern writings to explain that acts of the church all have a corresponding heavenly aspect.
