- Oral history in which Otis Hairston Jr. primarily discusses his involvement in civil rights demonstrations as a high school student in the spring of 1963. He describes demonstrations at the Carolina Theater and the sit-down on the square, both of which led to mass arrests, and provides details of his subsequent incarceration at the polio hospital and processing at the coliseum. Hairston also notes the role of the police, the behavior of hecklers and demonstrators, and the influence of his father.
