- Description:
- Letter dated May 27, 1961 from United States senator Albert Gore to an unidentified man in Chattanooga, Tennessee about violence in Alabama during the Freedom Rides. Sentator Gore agrees with the man that the violence "is certainly to be deplored" and mentions efforts "to persuade all involved to adopt the spirit of reasonableness and to avoid provocation." He ends by expressing his hope "that the controversy may be resolved by the courts and with orderly procedure rather than through the medium of mob rule."
