Essays include Different Perspectives on the Civil Rights Movements by Anthony Badger, "People Get Ready": Music and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s by Brian Ward, A Local and National Story: the Civil Rights Movement in Post-War Washington, D.C. by Wendell Pritchett, African-American Religious Leadership and the Civil Rights Movement by Clarence Taylor, and The Civil Rights Movement: Major Events and Legacies by James Patterson. Also included in the "From the Teacher's Desk" section are lesson plans for high school, middle school and elementary school levels prepared by experienced teachers. An interactive feature consists of "a jukebox of protest songs."
