- Description:
- Students will read "Child of the Civil Rights Movement" by Paula Young Shelton and Raul Colon. During the reading, students will take notes to collect their thoughts. Next, students will work in groups to review the printed pictures and read the article they are given and compare them to the events recorded in the story. Students will compare and contrast the different accounts and discuss things that were common in all of the primary sources. Next, students will be given a sheet of paper to be used as a first draft of their drawing. This drawing should be from the marchers' point of view. They will decide the setting and people who will be represented and create their first draft. Students will review and revise based on peer feedback and will then move to their final draft on the eye shaped paper. The final point of view drawings and a caption written by the student will be added to the students' digital portfolios and hung in the hallway so that other students in the school can see their work.
