Washington, Walter E., 1915-2003
Walter E. Washington is a 1948 graduate of the Howard University Law School. On September 5, 1967, President Johnson appointed him the first mayor-commissioner of the District of Columbia, and in 1975 he became the District's first elected mayor in 104 years.
