Washington, John R., 1928-
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, John R. Washington was working as a minister in San Francisco, California when he was arrested for his participation in the Freedom Rides during the summer of 1961. As part of the Freedom Ride, Washington, along with eight others, was arrested in the airport in Jackson, Mississippi on 21 July 1961.
