18-year-old arrested July 20, 1965 along with Mary Kate Fishe Bell, Gloria Wise, and Mamie Campbell for standing in the "white" line at the polling place. On July 31, 1965, federal judge W. A. Bootle ordered the women released and declared segregated elections illegal. Turner later became NAACP field worker.
