- Biography:
- Edward L. Rankin was a journalist and later a press assistant and private to William Umstead during his gubernatorial campaign in 1948 and his tenure as governor, from 1953 to 1955. After Umstead's death, Rankin served as private secretary to Luther Hodges, Umstead's successor.--From Oral Histories of the American South biography.
