Perdew, John, 1941-
White Student Noviolent Coordinating Committee member from Denver, Colorado who attended Harvard, Perdew came to Americus early in 1963 with Donald Harris and Ralph Allen and helped organize the Sumter County Movement. Perdew and Harris were arrested after an August 8, 1963 demonstration and charged with "seditious conspiracy" (inciting insurrection), a capital crime. The men were held without bail for three months and were released November 1, 1963 by three-judge federal panel who found the charge unconstitutional.
